Now most business will also have security measures in place for daily checks, however the festive period brings around other issues which may bring a need for further security over this time.

At a time where most of your work force are either off enjoying themselves over this time, you are left with an unmanned building and keeping it secure and undisturbed. There is generally an increase in burglary’s in office building, industrial warehouses and other work places during this time because they know it’ll take a longer response time from all security measures than at any other time of the year.

There’s a few ways to avoid this which include, a check list for the last day before the holidays, protect data and digital access to business property, making sure the premises is safe and not a fire hazard, tidying up, turning on the security systems, talk to your surrounding businesses and more.

Check list:
This list can be compiled for all staff members on the last day of holidays to ensure they have done their part to protect the business. This includes health and safety issues like emptying the fridge and locking up windows and doors in their offices etc.

Protect data and digital access:
Putting together a plan for this beforehand can be impertinent to security your businesses files and customers files over the Christmas period. It may be best to assign this to a trusted member of staff.

Premises is safe:
As part of the checklist mentioned above, this can be the job of the last person out of the building on the last day of the holidays. If they have a checklist of what they need to secure or ensure is secured will make the last day less worrying.

Not a fire hazard:
Making sure that all fire hazards are turned off during this time is necessary and can be as simple as turning off all the electrics (if your building allows) or at least some of the electrics. This will depend on your building and what electrics you need to keep on ie for data servers etc.

Tidying up:
Making sure that the building is left tidy can help prevent any issues and is just a good practice to make life that little bit easier after the holidays. It can also avoid health and safety issues like mentioned above.

Turning on security systems:
This is crucial to securing your business over the festive period, it can stop burglary’s or at least slow them down and can help prevent data issues and more depending on your security systems. It may be worth getting these updated a little time before you go on holiday break as it avoids issues when you are off or at least taking a break from the office.

Talk to your surrounding businesses:
It might be that your surrounding businesses aren’t shut the entire time and may actually be able to add extra security to your business whilst you are away simply as acting as a deterrent.

Making sure your premises are safe can be vital to ensuring a easy and quick return once the holidays are over.
